A former pig farmer has dedicated himself to vegetarianism and animal husbandry since a little piglet convinced him that killing pigs was wrong. In an effort to cover the huge overhead costs of managing the non-profitable ranch, Lo holds down multiple jobs. Aside from his salaried jobs, Lo also squeezes in time for his advocacy work to promote the benefits of a vegetarian diet, volunteer at schools and give free speeches at the Tzu Chi Foundation.
Lo said that despite all the criticism he has received for his decision to change how the farm was managed, he will still hold on to his beliefs even if it left him penniless.
Before his change of heart, Lo said that he had been a profit-driven pig farmer who inherited his family’s large-scale, lucrative farming business from his grandfather.
Lo said that at the business’ peak, his farm could accommodate 500 pigs and raked in substantial revenue that was far more than he could spend.
Recalling the moment that transformed him from a moneymaking pig farmer to a vegetarian who regarded his farm animals as close companions, Lo said it was a piglet that was about to be butchered that changed his perception of pig farming.
Lo said that at the time, a staff member from a slaughterhouse had gone to his farm to single out a few pigs, prompting the terrified animals to start wailing.
“Except for one piglet, which abruptly quieted down when I took it in my hands and then it looked me right in the eyes, as if saying: ‘How could you do this to me?’ That look in its eyes shattered me and kept me awake all night,” Lo said.
“It was then that I resolved to convert to vegetarianism and cut off cooperation with any butcheries,” he said.
Over the past few years, only forty out of the hundreds of pigs survive, while the rest have succumbed to old age or disease, but Lo still spares no effort in attending to his pig companions.
Lo starts his day at 4am each morning, driving to a number of vegetarian restaurants to collect their leftovers, which are first cooked before being fed to his treasured pets.
Afterward, Lo cleans up the pigpens and washes and plays with the pigs attentively, as if they were his children.
He has also sprayed the slogan “animals are our friends, not our food” on his truck because he wants to spread the seeds of his beliefs wherever he goes.

BREAKING NEWS - HORSE CARRIAGE CRASH ON 11TH AVE.
![]()
Horses do not belong on the congested streets of NYC being barraged with a variety of stimuli. As prey animals who weigh between 1,500 and 2,000 pounds and who will bolt and spook at the slightest provocation, these sensitive, nervous animals become unwitting weapons and could kill or injure themselves or passersby. The Coalition has repeatedly asked Mayor Bloomberg and Speaker Quinn to take this safety issue seriously and ban horse-drawn carriages. We hope it will not take a person dying for the administration to finally address these important concerns.

Pretty sure today was probably The. Best. Adoption. Event. EVER!!! at Rocket Dog Rescue! (Well, at least I like to think so!) There might have been as many as SIX dogs and puppies adopted, including TWO that I feel absolutely in love with: beautiful, sweet, 10-year-old black Lab CECE… and the AWESOMELY handsome, and wonderful white Siberian Husky - ARCTIC! (He was just so freakin’ ADORABLE… people were coming up specifically asking for HIM!) Here’s Arctic’s “face pic” - the one he sends out to modeling agents and casting directors. :)

“And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence …that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer - because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth.”
This photo shows the collapse of Torrero Alvaro Munera, as he realized in the middle of the his last fight, the injustice to the animal. From that day forward he became an opponent of bullfights.

GOOD FOR HER!! We need more people like her on this planet.
Actress **Katherine Heigl denounced the measure by writing to every member of the state Senate on behalf of PETA.
She wrote, “I am writing to urge you to vote against House Bill (H.B.) 187, which would criminalize undercover filming on factory farms. This bill makes our state’s agricultural community seem desperate to hide illegal and inhumane treatment of an…imals from the public. As animals cannot defend themselves, the public must maintain its right to document illegal cruel practices in order to alert law enforcement to their existence. Please don’t impede law enforcement by passing this terrible bill.
“I hope that legislators in Utah recognize that…they need to work to prevent cruelty to animals by strengthening laws, not penalizing those who are trying to expose this cruelty.”
If the bill passes, it will make undercover filming at farms a misdemeanor, a fact that animal rights activists say works against not only the animals, but the farms themselves.
According to the ASPCA’s Suzanne McMillan, “Bills like this only serve to heighten suspicion that the agricultural industry has something to hide. Americans deserve to know how their food is produced, and responsible farmers should welcome that transparency.”
Want to help put a stop to this cruel piece of legislature? Then check out the rest of Heigl’s letter and add your voice to PETA’s campaign against the ag gag bill.

Earlier this week, we told you about a Utah bill that seeks to ban animal rights groups from filming undercover at factory farms. Similar “ag gag” bills have been defeated in several states, but unfortunately, this one has already been passed by the Utah House of Representatives — a fact that doesn’t sit well with animal lovers, who are working furiously to stop it from being made a law by the state Senate.
PETA, Mercy for Animals, and the ASPCA farm animal welfare program have publicly opposed the bill, with celeb support from Cloris Leachman. And now they have another star in their corner.
Actress Katherine Heigl, who was married in Utah and owns a home there, denounced the measure by writing to every member of the state Senate on behalf of PETA.
